For Best Cosmetic Results, Phoenix Dentist Offers Composite Fillings

May 23, 2023

Cosmetic dentistry often refers to dental care that enhances the appearance of your smile, but not necessarily the function of your teeth. With today’s technological advances and state-of-the-art treatments, nearly all dental procedures can be performed with the highest level of cosmetic appeal.

This is true of dental fillings as well. Fillings are used to provide stability and protection to a tooth with a cavity, caused by decay, or for teeth that have been damaged, broken, or worn down.

Typically, fillings have been made from many dental materials including gold, porcelain, silver amalgam, plastic, tooth-colored, or glass composite resin. Insurance coverage, cost, severity, and location of the filling would often dictate the type of material used.

White Fillings

At Biltmore Dental Center in Phoenix, AZ, Dr. Frost and our professional dental team offer porcelain and composite resin fillings for the best cosmetic results and patient comfort. There are advantages to both types of fillings.

Porcelain is an ideal dental material because it has the same light-reflecting characteristics as tooth enamel, giving it a natural-looking appeal. It is also extremely durable and stain-resistant; it also reacts to temperature variations similarly to natural enamel. A porcelain filling, also called an “inlay,” is bonded directly to the tooth, sealing against any bacteria. An additional benefit to a porcelain inlay is that Dr. Frost may be able to create the filling in-house with our advanced CEREC technology.

Other Advantages to Porcelain or Composite Resin Fillings Include:

  • Appearance – the shade can be matched to your teeth for the best esthetic results
  • Strengthening and protecting teeth – both materials are bonded to the tooth structure, strengthening the overall tooth
  • Conservative treatment – more of the natural tooth structure remains intact in preparation for the filling, as opposed to traditional amalgam
  • Multi-function – in addition to being used as a filling, either material may also be used to restore broken, worn, or chipped teeth
